Tuesday, March 14 - Tourist Day with the Family

Tuesday, March 14 - Tourist Day with the Family

Today was a tiny bit warmer and maybe less windy, so we bundled up and headed off for a tourist day.  My bike had very low brakes when we bought it, and they kept getting worse.  We had seen Island Bikes on one of our rides, so we biked there and Jeannie & CO picked us up.  As soon as we walked in, the repair guy said "It needs new cables." He estimated $30.00, but when we got back the bill was $50.00.  He had to replace the gear cable, too.  We only paid $80.00 for the bike!  But it will be nice to have brakes.

We started tourist day with a trolley tour to get an overview.  It was narrated and you could get off and on at any stop.

Maybe Uncle Em could use this idea to restart his worm bed.

Who can resist climbing on a cannon?

Tourist stores and lots of people on St. George Street.
Waiting at the Trolley Stop.

It is still Bike Week, so we saw all kinds of motorcycles as we rode around.
The one thing Lily wanted to do was to tour the chocolate factory.  Tickets were $8.00, so we waited until after the trolley tour and stopped just to buy chocolate.  She was happy.

The kids wanted to see the lighthouse, so we drove toward the beach and pulled in.  To see anything beyond the gift shop, you had to pay admission, $8.00 I think.  Museums and attractions here have been more expensive than anywhere else we have visited.

We could see this great tree without paying!
The weather wasn't right for the beach, but we pulled in to at least take a look.  The kids were more excited about the playground than the beach.

One of our Ellis cousins, Justin Terry, lives in Jacksonville with his wife and two children ages 8 and 5, and he and Jeannie had made plans for a mini-reunion.  Hudson gets so excited about his cousins, we couldn't miss this opportunity.  Justin and family came to the boat to pick us up and see the boat, then we met Jeannie & CO at Mojo BBQ, owned by one of Justin's clients.  The BBQ was excellent, but of course the company was better.  Hudson and Will immediately started talking Pokémon, and didn't stop talking the rest of the night.  Lily and Hannah took a little longer to warm up, but they had a great time coloring, doing the puzzles. Thanks, Paige and Justin, for a wonderful evening.
