Tuesday, October 10 - Tow Boat US Again

Tuesday, October 10 - Tow Boat US Again

More rain!  This is getting really old.

Some really pretty houses, and some more stilt houses, these in Savannah, TN.

Did this guy seriously PLANT kudzu?  That’s certainly what it looked like. (KUDZU)

This is Shiloh National Battlefield.  We had visited the park by car when we were in Decatur last fall.  This was certainly a different view.

The current was noticeably stronger as we approached Pickwick Dam.

Just upriver from the dam we saw lots of pretty houses.  The huge one is for sale for over 4 million, we heard later.

We had two packages mailed to us at Pickwick Landing State Park Marina, so we pulled in about 3:00.

Oops, ALMOST pulled in.  TVA had been dropping water over the week-end, and we hit bottom just as we turned into the marina, just barely on the wrong side of the marker.  Danny cut the engines quickly, very quickly, and we called the marina to see if they had a boat that could pull us off.  They offered the park pontoon boat when they could locate the rangers, but we called Tow Boat US, deciding it was more prudent to use someone who had insurance.

Rick, a fellow Looper on Moni Jean, which was anchored in the cove, came over in his dinghy to check on us, then the park rangers came by.

The tow captain maneuvered for a while because of the shallow water, but once he got the rope to us, the boat pulled off with no trouble.  Danny thought he felt a vibration as we pulled into the Marin.  We will see..
