Wednesday, June 28 - Great Lakes
We pulled out from
Oswego at 8:00. I’m not sure why we left that early, but we did. A
container ship was coming in to the river as we heading out into Lake
Ontario.
Our entry into the
Great Lakes.
There had been
several other Looper boats both at our marina and at the city wall, they got an
even earlier start. Most of them were going straight to Kingston, we took
the scenic route along the Eastern shore.
The ride across the
lake was pretty rough. The waves are so unpredictable, you don’t even
know when to brace. I changed my normal cruising seat position and moved
right next to Danny's captain chair. Sitting on the bench, you get
bounced back and forth. Next to him I was secure from at least one side.
We had selected
Henderson Bay as our destination. As soon as we turned into the bay, the
waves quieted. It was scenic, but rather sad as so many places were
flooded
We kept seeing
these metal frames sticking up in the air. I Googled and found that they
were dock frames. Since the water is so high, people have not been able
to put their docks into the water.
The cove in Whites
Bay looked like the best anchorage, so we dropped anchor and enjoyed the fun.
First, a water
skier (BRRRR), then kids playing chase in canoes and kayaks. One even hid
behind our boat.
Danny grilled
sausage, and we called it a night.
