Sunday, July 16 - Lift Lock #2
We left Balsam Lake
and entered another part of the Trent Canal. The Trent Canal is a land
cut through the Canadian Shield, a geological feature that covers half of the
country. The water was very clear so you could see the rocks along the
edges, and there were piles of rocks where the canal had been dug and the rocks
piled aside.
Our adventure of
the day was the Kirkfield Lift Lock, the second highest lift lock in North
America.
Canal Lake
highlights included a perfect half-circle bridge and a golf tournament.
Talbots's River was next. Love the noodles on the dock for fenders and the family swimming with their dog.
Back on the Trent
Canal we saw either an experimental garden or a very large garden planted by a
wonderful gardener! And a great barn.
We stopped for the
night at Lock 40 in Brock, ON. It was very peaceful, and our friends
Sonny and Phyllis on Corkscrew (fromNashville) were in front of us.
Late that evening,
our carbon monoxide alarm went off, and off, and off. Danny figured out
that our exhaust going directly into the lock wall and Sonny’s exhaust in front
of us must have set it off. We slept outside, Danny on the narrow front
bench and me on the back with body on a soft chair, head on a hard chair with a
pillow, and feet on an ice chest. The boater’s life for us!
