Thursday, July 20 - Lakes, Canals and Rivers
As we left Orillia,
we passed Ship Island, which has been decimated by cormorants. Their poop
is so acid it kills all the vegetation. We saw our first cormorant damage
in Guntersville Lake, Alabama. It’s everywhere!
Here are some
pictures from Lake Couchiching.
Now we are back on
the Trent Canal and the Severn River.
Sparrow Lake had lots of tiny islands and cottages and some tricky passages to negotiate.
And another stretch of the Severn River. It IS called the Trent-Severn Waterway after all.
The Big Chute Railway. From the first reading I did on the Great Loop, I was intrigued by this structure. We tied up at a government dock so we could tour the railway before our crossing adventure tomorrow.
We spent the night at Big Chute Marina and ate dinner in their restaurant.
