Friday, July 14 - Clear Lake and Stony Lake

Friday, July 14 - Clear Lake and Stony Lake

This is a butter tart.  It’s a big thing amongst loopers.  It’s only available in Ontario.  The best description is a thick cookie-like crust and a filling similar to pecan pie, with or without pecans..  They also come with raisin filling and nut filling.  We did not try the raisin ones!  We bought some at a grocery store, and these from a bakery in Campbellford.

We filled our water and gas tanks before leaving our friendly marina.

Right across from the marina was an island for sale - only $399,000.00.  The marina owner said it was cheap because most people who want their own island want it to be more private and this one has lots of traffic going by in a narrow channel.  Buy the island, run the restaurant?

We cruised through Clear Lake, which was lovely.  There was even a church on an island.

Stony Lake was next.  You can where it gets its name.  Lots of cottages and bots.

Kawartha Lakes is a beautiful region with lovely houses and lots of brightly colored Adirondack chairs.

Our cruising friends Craig and Carolyn were at the Bobcaygeon Lock wall and recommended it, so that’s where we planned to stop for the night.   We rounded a curve, and Bobcugeon was upon us!  There was lots of boat traffic, lots of activity, and we weren’t sure where to go.  Thank goodness Craig appeared along the wall and helped us tie up at the only space we saw. Unfortunately, the space was at a blue wall, which meant we had to go into the lock the next time it opened.  Boats were coming and going, people were milling around on both lock walls, and the lock tender was telling us to hurry in.  CRAZY!  Nobody was sure if there was a space to tie up on the owner wall, but we really didn’t have much choice - we were headed down!
There was a little bit of space beyond the blue line below the lock, and thank goodness the boat captains were on their boats and offered to pull up a little so we could have room.
Gil and Debbie decided to pull into the marina, which had only one transient space.  Traffic and current were crazy there, too, but they made it.

This adorable dog, and its owners, pulled in after dock hours and spent the night in back of us.
No sunset picture, but this is a flower Lily made for us that hangs on our lamp.  Love it!
