I forgot to include
this picture of abandoned rice fields on the river north of town. The Georgetown
district produced nearly half of the total rice crop in the US in 1840.
You can still see parts of the gate system that were used to drain and flood
the fields. There was a rice museum in town but we ran out of time before
we got to that one.
