Tuesday, May 16 - Last Day in Virginia
And this is the
reward for waiting out the weather! Beautiful, smooth water!
Leaving Hampton, we
passed Fort Monroe. This is a place we wanted to tour, but it was several
miles and a tall bridge away from our marina.
We had an
uneventful cruising day, and pulled into Dozier's Regatta Point Marina
mid-afternoon. Deb had researched marinas in the area, so we followed her
advice. It is a really pretty marina and clubhouse. Nothing is
within walking or biking distance, but they do have a marina car.
Walking to the
office to check in, we passed this boat. What an appropriate name!
Danny wanted to get
a Virginia fishing license, so we put our names on the list for a loaner
car. We ran into Gil and Debbie as we were going to pick it up and asked
if they wanted to join us.
The lady at the
office recommended that we stop at a local seafood market. They sell
fishing licenses and offer prepared seafood dishes. We bought several
items, including a twice-baked potato with shrimp that she had raved about.
The whole time we
were looking at food, Danny was trying to get his license. After a long
process, the gentleman said he didn't need one - he was too old! We all
got a kick out of that.
We stopped for
lunch at a place that had the most cars. Gil immediately picked out the
BBQ sandwich, which started a discussion about our love for BBQ. I
mentioned that we are BBQ judges, which usually elicits a strong
response. Gil very casually said, "We are, too, with
KCBS." We had a great time eating and talking BBQ.
