Tuesday, April 11 - To Savannah
Our anchorage last
night was off St. Catherine's Island. This morning as we left, the marsh
was just as beautiful in the early light of day!
At the far north
point of the island was a passage called Hell Gate that the guide book
describes as treacherous due to current, a narrow channel, and shoaling.
The red and green markers zig-zag'ed through the gate, but Captain Dan did a
great job navigating.
Some nature
shots.
We stopped for
lunch just as we got to Skidaway Island, and eagle-eye Danny spotted these wild
hogs. They were technically on Green Island, but close to houses on
Skidaway. We hope the water between the two islands was wide.
This picture shows
some of the houses on Skidaway River. I always knew I wanted to live on
the Intracoastal Waterway!
Our marina for the
night was Isle of Hope Marina. We didn't want to keep going long enough
to get downtown, and the marina in between was full, so we stopped a little
early. Always a good option in our opinion.
We was some Loopers
that had been in Brunswick with us, and met a couple from Connecticut who
bought a bought in Stuart, Florida, and just started cruising without any kind
of plan, stopping when they needed to go back home. We are also starting
to see more boats headed south, they must have waited until it was warm enough
to leave home.
This is the first
marina we have been in that has all boats anchored alongside the docks rather
in slips. We don't know if it was due to the tide, the current, or just
the best way to use the space they had available.
Since we stopped
for the day early, Danny washed the boat and I washed the clothes. I did
spray the boat a little, but he did most of the work. Navigating and
doing the laundry is hard work!
Good night,
moon.
