Saturday, April 15 - Hilton Head to Beaufort
We had anchored off
the channel, but apparently all the fishing boats knew this was a quick route
to the ocean, so we had lots of company this morning!
The view of the
houses on north Hilton Head was awesome, I didn't get a good shot of the beach
just off shore from some of them.
Traveling on the
Beaufort River, we saw great houses, but still lots of hurricane damage.
And lots of
boats. I don't think we have ever seen three boats on our stern.
We passed Parris
Island. I remember Jeannie's friend Emily saying her Dad took them there
on vacation - he was a Marine!
Beaufort was our
destination. We pulled in, hooked up, and went for a bike ride.
This beautiful house is at the entrance to the marina. Amazing!
And the Visitor
Center is in the old armory.
The ride east of
the marina gave us this beautiful vista.
Loopers we had met
in St. Petersburg stopped by the boat late in the afternoon! We had
rafted up with them at the inlet across from Don CeSar New Years Day, but have
not seen them since then. We had abbreviated docktails, then they headed
for the mooring balls. They are staying for a few days so we hope to see
them again.
We also met Gold
Loopers at our dock. They have a home in Atlanta, but live mostly on
their boat. And the boat across from us was built by its owner! He
said when he retired he didn't want to play golf, so he built a boat! It
took him five years, but it is an amazing boat!
Way too much fun
for one day!
