Thursday, May 25 - Annapolis and Beyond
The Bike Doctor
delivered our bikes and we went on a shopping trip. We needed bread, and
Danny wanted more cord for his zipper pulls. Historic Annapolis has very
little real life shopping, so we headed to the Eastport area. The terrain
is NOT flat. It's not hilly, but at least rolling. Enough that I
had to get off and walk my bike a couple of times.
Ace Hardware had
some cord that will work for Danny, and some boat rope on sale. West
Marine was right across the street, so of course we had to stop in for a couple
of things. Dollar General for bread and paper plates, and it's lunch
time. There was a McDonald's down the road, but on the way we passed a BBQ
place and decided to eat there. The brisket was probably the best I have
eaten at a restaurant. (As opposed to a BBQ competition.) The
little bowls of baked beans was $4.00. That would buy a lot of Bush's
Grillin'Beans.
The ride back to
the marina had more downhills, but we were still pretty tired when we got there.
Annapolis claims to
be the sailing capital of the country, or maybe the world. These pictures
from our dock show just a sample, the harbor was full of marinas with just as
many boats.
It's commissioning
week at the Naval Academy, so there were lots of parties. We saw flower
arrangements being delivered, balloons being tied up to mark the way, food
taken out, and lots of people walking out and back. We finally walked to the
end of the dock to see what was happening. The party was on the huge boat
we saw as we came in yesterday. They didn't invite us to join them.
