May 30 - C & D Canal
Today we say
goodbye to the Chesapeake Bay. The weather has limited our explorations,
I feel like we have been cheated.
The Chesapeake and
Delaware connects the two bays, and is supposed to be the busiest canal in the
country and the third busiest in the world. Sure couldn't prove it by
us. We passed two small sailboats and one small workboat in the 14 miles.
Delaware City is a
staging point for boats crossing the Delaware, which can be a daunting body of
water. There is only one marina, and it is one long strip along a narrow
canal. Thank goodness they put us at the fuel dock so we didn't have to
walk the whole length.
The dock master
conducts a weather meeting each afternoon at 5:0, two minutes after the latest
NOAA data is updated. Danny thought it was helpful, I thought it didn't
make much sense. The dockmaster brought out the wine and we were buds!
