Friday, June 9 - Leaving New York
We said good-bye to
the Statue of Liberty and headed up the Hudson River.
We passed a
boat named Le Gran Bleu anchored in the middle of the river. We saw
it yesterday on our cruise up the East River, but this was a closer look.
We Googled it, of course, and found that it is one of the largest private
yachts in the world - 371 feet long! The "dinghy" boat was as
long as our boat, and there was a sail boat on the other side! Absolutely
amazing.
Ellis Island was
next. We would love to have a picture taken of our boat in front of the
island, but no other Looper boats were around to take it for us. It was
impressive, wish we had been able to take the tour.
New York is
incredible! I took a million pictures, but will only bore you with a
few. Let me know if you would like to see more!
Lots of
construction.
A place to practice
your golf swing.
A marina we
certainly couldn't afford!
The Bronx and
Yonkers.
The New Jersey side
of the river was much prettier than I expected. The Palisades were
impressive.
Bridge construction
seen from a different angle.
Half Moon Bay
Marina was our destination for the day. We had read and heard so much
about this place, but it didn't live up to the hype.
The town was supposed
to be a short walk away. Maybe if you are a giant! And it was
hilly, too! We did pass a beautiful dogwood bush, and got to see the
commuter trains making their runs.
Sunset over the sea
wall.
