Friday, June 2 - In Search of a Phone
The trip from Cape
May to New York takes three consecutive good weather days. Day 2 can be
done inside so "iffy" weather is OK for day 2, but not day 3.
The weather forecast this morning did not show us 3 good days, so we decided to
stay in Cape May and check the weather tomorrow.
The aft cabin head
has been leaking, so Danny decided this would be a good morning to repair
it. Mission accomplished, we tackled the phone issue, or rather
lack-of-phone issue.
I had searched
eBay, Amazon, and called the AT&T store looking for a replacement cell
phone. Given our situation, WalMart seemed to be the only solution.
So we took Bruce's truck and headed for my NOT favorite store. Before I
get into the phone story, let me just say that "WalMart People" are
the same in every state we have visited. Same wardrobe, same body
adornment, same parenting skills, same manners, It's amazing and scary.
The phone saga
lasted over an hour. The clerk was new, he kept asking another guy how to
do everything. They couldn't figure out how I could pay the complete
price of the phone rather than take an installment plan. They were on the
office with their tech support person forever. It was awful!!! And
when I talked to Apple Support later in the day, I found out they had done the
set-up wrong. AAUUUGGHH!!! We stopped at McDonald's to settle our
nerves when we finally left.
It was time to go
to the beach!
There were seven of us - Deb, Gil, and Alex, and
Carolyn and Craig, It was a nice ride, and a beautiful beach! The
water was too cold to go in, even for Alex.
As we were
putting our shoes back on, a lady said to Danny, "I've never seen a tan
like that. You're the winner!" She was talking about his Chaco
tan on his feet.
We biked along the
beach to find a beer. The first place had a roof-top bar and there was a
wedding party, bride still in her wedding dress. We had passed a wedding
party on the beach, too. ''Tis the season for beach weddings, I
guess.
Gil and Deb drove
Bruce, the Harbor Host's truck to his restaurant for dinner. Craig and
Carolyn stopped for a visit. We had a great time talking and swapping
books.
When Gil and Deb
got back from dinner, they stopped by the boat to tell us we could not leave
tomorrow. They had driven through the old part of Cape May and said we
HAD to see it. I guess we are staying another day.
