Friday, September 1 - Pentwater, MI
Our fellow Loopers
left this morning heading for Pentwater with the exception of Sonny and Phylis
on Corkscrew. Gil and Deb were headed for South Haven. They need to
be in Chicago Tuesday for doctor’s appointments. Sonny wanted to go to
Snug Harbor in Pentwater, but said everything was full beginning
tomorrow. We called the Municipal Marina there to see if they had an
opening. They said yes, but only with 30 amp power. That works for
us if there are TWO 30 amp outlets. I forgot to ask him how many
30’s. More later.
Another exercise
walk, this time to pick up my bike. Since I was walking, I had the
opportunity to take more pictures of downtown Ludington. And I found
Biercamp Market, a delightful store downtown. I had passed it earlier but
thought it was a brewery. This time I went in because I needed balsamic
vinegar to get rid of fruit flies. That’s what Google recommends, we will
see how it works.
I met dog at the
bike shop yesterday, but didn’t notice his bed in the front window until
today. My bike was ready - the brake repair cost $10.00 less than the
bike did!
Pentwater, our next
destination, was only 10 miles from Ludington. This may have been our
shortest cruising day yet! The water was calm, but the temperature was
very cool. Actually it was cold! Again, the beautiful dunes.
And again the
requisite lighthouse, beach, and lake entrance, this time into Lake Pentwater.
Danny backed into
the slip at the Municipal Marina, as he always does, but this time we were
right downtown and he had an admiring audience! Several people stayed
around to talk him, one guy said it was the best job he had seen with a boat.
So now it’s time to
hook up the electricity. There was only one 30 amp station, not
two. The harbormaster was not very helpful or pleasant. We called
the other marinas - nothing. Our Waterway Guide listed several good
places to anchor out, so that’s what we did. Danny called Snug Harbor
back and asked them to let us know if anything came open, and the nice young
man said there might be a spot at the gas dock after they closed, about 7:00.
Time for a dinghy
ride. First we checked out the marinas. We still love looking at
boats!
Then we went back
toward the beach. You can see the lighthouse in the second picture.
We crossed in front
of this boat accidentally. Who needs that many rods on a boat that
small?
I thought these two
boys were precious. (Are these OK, Sherri George Allen?).
If you look
closely, you can see feet sticking over the edge of this boat. I guess
someone was taking a nap.
Snug Harbor called
and said yes, we could have a spot for the night. So we headed back
across the river to the dock. We were just around the corner from Looper
friends on In Deep Ship and Time Out, and Cha Cha and True North were across
the way.
These nice people
stopped to chat as we were getting settled in our slip. They wanted to
hear all about The Loop. I wish I had printed fact sheets to hand out to
people showing the route and giving some facts. Being close to the shore
makes it much easier to meet new people, and to keep track of other Loopers.
This boat, Canim,
was tied up right behind us. The style was much like Enticer that we saw
in Charleviox, but this one was even longer, 90 feet to 85 feet. Google
said it has a single owner. Wonder if they would like to be our friends?
