Tuesday, February 7 - Headed for Key West

Tuesday, February 7  - Headed for Key West

Third sunrise for me!
We headed out early for Key West, we just didn't know how  long it would take.  Looking at the charts, we decided to take the outside route since we could stay closer to land and make better time.  As soon we we left the harbor, the wind and waves hit us.  Crazy wild waves.  It was almost impossible to walk around on the boat.  Things kept falling, even after we thought we had secured everything.  And the crab pot markers were even harder to see with the crazy waves.  It was a very rough ride, and terribly rough driving.

Thank goodness there was a bridge high enough for us to cross under, and we crossed under to the "inside" route (Gulf side).  Almost immediately the water calmed and we were able to relax.  The route on the inside is far off shore, as you can see see on the Google map app.
After cruising a couple of hours, Danny found a place with enough depth we could get in close to land.  It had a beautiful beach, with one boat in sight.  We anchored, and Danny braved the cold water to cut some crab trap line from under the boat.
Then we took the dinghy in to shore and explored.  By this time there were several boats and lots of partying.  One young lady even lost her bathing suit top.

Perfect Florida Keys day!
