Thursday, February 9 - Company from Knoxville!

Thursday, February 9 - Company from Knoxville!

Our wonderful friends Jane and David were vacationing in Key Largo with Jane's sister and brother-in-law.  We knew our dates in the Keys would overlap, but didn't know if our travel delays would keep us from getting together.  The gas dilemma had prevented us from going straight to Key Largo, so they drove to Key West.  It was wonderful to see them!

We started the day with a tour of our boat and the dinghy dock, then David was ready to eat!

We chose the Half Shell at the end of the pier and were very pleased.  My conch ceviche was wonderful.  Jane and Betty ordered a shrimp basket, continuing their search for the best shrimp in the Keys

Our tour started with Sloppy Joe's, Hemingway's hangout.  It was a happening place!

Next was Mallory Square and the cruise ship port.  David found ice cream, Hume found cigars, the ladies didn't even shop.

Next stop was Mel Fisher's Museum.  We were a little disappointed with the display.  Hume says there are several Mel Fisher Museums and the treasure is divided among them.  And it's not even an attractive building.

Our walking tour took us past the end of US 1 South, or the beginning of US 1 North.

As always, we take pictures of unusual trees, so here they are.

On to Earnest Hemingway's home.  The lady at the booth wouldn't let us go in far enough to take a good picture without paying, so we got a not-so-good picture for free.

It was time for a break!  We found a delightful courtyard bar on Duvall Street and consumed some adult beverages while we rested our weary legs.

During the walk back to the boat, Jane's pedometer hit 10,000 steps.

With a two-hour drive ahead of them, our friends headed out and we headed to the boat.  It was a wonderful day in paradise!
