Tuesday, September 5 - Pentwater Day #5
We were waked up
about 3:00 a.m. by extreme waves. I mean extreme! Last night was
rough, but nothing like this. The wind was the strongest we have seen on
the entire trip. Danny kept going out to check the ropes and adjust the
fenders, trying to keep us from bumping the dock. I stayed up top with
him because I was afraid the wind would take him away. Needless to say,
we didn’t sleep very well.
The wind settled
down some, but the water was still rough. Dan came by to check on
us. It seems that everyone was up around 3:00, but we were along the wall
rather than in a slip so we got the prize for roughest night.
Obviously we were
not leaving today, so Danny went to pay for another night and the marina guy
said they would try to move us into the boat lift well late this afternoon so
we would have a smoother night. We gratefully accepted. The wind
was still very stiff, so two of the marina guys came over to help us with the
move. We were so glad they did, because the big boat was still behind us
and the wind would blow us right back into it. These guys really knew what
they were doing, and got us moved and safely tied in the well. It even
has an easy way for me to get off the boat. I hope they don’t need this
space tomorrow so we can stay here.
It’s hard to see,
but those are whitecaps on the narrow section of Pentwater Lake where our boat
was tied.
The weather was
still yucky, but we went to the market across the street for ice and
wine. It’s so cute inside, but so expensive. What I would give for
a trip to my Kroger!
Danny checked the
weather after we got moved. Looks like we will be here at least another
day. We like wind under 10 mph and waves 1-2 feet max.
