Tuesday, August 29 - Manistee

Tuesday, August 29 - Manistee

Cruising to Manistee was uneventful, maybe even boring.  If you look carefully at the pictures, you can see boats.  The water and the horizon blended perfectly!

Another lighthouse, another beach, and another Coast Guard station.

These were some views en route to the Manistee Marina.

Deb and I were sitting on a bench beside the dock while the guys were getting the boats settled in.  A lady stopped to talk to us about the Loop as she walked by.  She and her husband are interested in doing it the Loop in a few years.  As we chatted, she talked about going to Knoxville to see her sister.  Turns out the sister owns Clancy’s Tavern, right next to the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville.  And Charles said they are one of his Yee Haw beer customers.  Small world.

While we checked in, Danny searched his Yellow Pages app for a place to eat lunch.  A & W came up, and Deb was excited.  So we took the bikes down and headed off.  The drive through town was nice, and lunch was delicious.  And they had fried cheese curds!  I can’t remember the last time I ate at an A & W, but I would eat there again any time.

After lunch we took a bike ride down to the park on the shore where the concert would be that night.  You really got the dune effect.

This cool car passed us a couple of times.
Our last stop was at the Manistee County Historical Museum in an old drugstore on the Main Street.  It was eclectic, to say the least.  You had to duck to go into the playhouse.  Lily would have loved it.

Back at the marina, a boat from Richmond Hill, GA pulled in just in front of Deb and Gil.  Naturally we went to talk to them.  Usually I slip in something about being from Georgia, but nothing about Cordele.  This time I did, and was amazed to hear that the lady on board had taught English at my alma mater, Crisp County High School, years ago.  Her ex-husband still lives in Cordele.  Small world event #2 for the day.

We decided to take a dinghy ride into the lake rather than go to the concert.  There were lots of fishing boats in the lake, and a Coast Guard ship and a ferry for railroad cars that you could tour.  It was one BIG ship!  We did an exterior tour from the comfort of our dinghy.

And back to the marina and home.
