Saturday, September 2 - Pentwater Day 2
Time for breakfast
at Cottage Garden Cafe. Their specialty is Basile Eggs which is eggs with cream
cheese and chives. It’s named after a customer who ordered it all the
time and is very tasty. Danny ordered a Western omelette, what a
surprise!
The bikes were
still on the boat, so we walked to the restaurant and through town. Pentwater
is a very cute town, with nice shops, most of them having 50% off sales. Flowers
were everywhere, even in front of the post office.
While we were at
breakfast, the 90 foot boat behind us pulled out, now we were in front of this
one, an 80 footer. They must spend a lot of the summer in this slot -
everything was set up like a campsite. LOTS of ice chests, chairs, bikes,
picnic tables with table cloths. They started “breaking camp” soon after
I took the picture.
We saw a sign in
town about a fishing tournament, so when I stepped onto the back of the boat
and saw lots of folks in green shirts, I knew it must be weigh-in time. We
made it down in time to see the last two fish weighed. The categories
were largest salmon, largest trout, combo, and something we never
understood. Anyhow, the winning salmon was 27 pounds, one pound more than
the winner in the last tournament we saw. The folks looked like they were
having a great time. Oh, and every ice chest was white and they were all
the same size.
The weather was delightful, so we spent the afternoon on the back of the boat enjoying the sunshine and watching several groups of kids play in the grassy area next to the boat. Awesome!
Pretty skies over
Lake Michigan!
