Sunday, July 30 - Dead Freezers on the Home Front

Sunday, July 30 - Dead Freezers on the Home Front

Our waking up-view of Baie Fine.  It was a spectacular anchorage!

This is looking out the mouth of Baie Fine into the North Channel.

We headed for Little Current for provisioning. There are very few towns along the north shore, and no big towns on the south shore once we pass it. Notice the wind turbines in the background.  We have seen lots of them along the lakes.

There is a swing bridge at the entrance to Little Current Harbor that opens on the hour for 15 minutes.  You can see the boats lining up waiting for the opening.  The current is pretty strong, so there is a lot of jockeying for position as boats wait.  Plus, the first boats through get to be docked first, but we didn’t know that.  We waited over 30 minutes to get into our slip.

We went into town with Deb and Gil to find lunch.  The Anchor Restaurant was praised in the guidebook, but was just OK.  The town itself is cute, and completely centered around the harbor.

Jeannie called while we were at lunch with the bad news that electricity had gone off in our garage and both the freezer and the frig/freezer were completely defrosted.  Luke had gone over to mow the grass (you’re awesome, Luke) and found it, by smell, as soon as he opened the garage door.  We felt terrible that Jeannie and Luke had to deal with all that mess.  Charles had a canoe float trip for YeeHaw and couldn’t come help.  (I told him he owes them some beer!)    They threw everything away and cleaned out both freezers.  What a terrible way for them to have to spend a Sunday.  Jeannie said we could not leave town again, and I don’t blame her!
That is all nasty meat juice and mold!!!!  It smelled like a dead animal!!!!
Their freezer has NEVER been this clean!

All the double bagged stuff from freezer!

Danny and I rode bikes down to the next marina to pick up a package Jeannie had mailed to us.  Now I have my new replacement Bogs!  The bottoms of my old ones had gotten so soft they picked up rocks and gravel every time I wore them.  Since I have worn them every day of our trip, I shouldn’t be surprised that they have gone soft.

Several Loop boats were at our marina, so Deb organized Docktails for the evening.  Lots of people showed up, and someone made Buffalo chicken dip!

Back at the boat, Danny blew up the Hippity Hop that Jeannie had ordered for us and included in the box.  It’s a lot cheaper than buying a boat fender.  It’s a little big (I ordered the adult size), but it’s a really pretty pink!
And of course sunset pictures.
