Wednesday, March 29 - Fishing!

Wednesday, March 29 - Fishing!

When we were making plans on the phone, I mentioned fishing because I knew Henry and Linda loved to fish.  Henry then located a guide and made arrangements for us to go out in the afternoon.  Much better plan than early morning!  So we went to Blue Hen for breakfast, to Publix to buy sandwich makings, and to Vilano Beach just to look.  The waves were unbelievable!  I have never seen waves that big.  Word had spread to the surfers, and there were LOTS of them there enjoying the action.

Back to the boat to make sandwiches, then to meet our boat at the gas dock at this marina.  Convenient, right?  It was an absolutely gorgeous day!  The captain's original plan had been to fish in the river, but when he got to the dock he said the water looked like chocolate milk (stirred up) so he suggested we go "out."  Suited me - I have never been ocean fishing.  Linda and I were ready!

The electronic gear on the boat was amazing.  He even has a "remote" for his electric motor that keeps him in the same spot using GPS!  Surely do wish my Daddy could have seen that!  We caught a few red snapper that we had to throw back.  They were so pretty!  The big one I caught floated after we put him back in the water, so he had to be pulled out with a net and "deflated" with a hypodermic needle.  Who knew?

We all caught seatrout, many of them.  The captain did give Linda and me a hard time because we went through so many of his bait shrimp!

Everything was perfect - the weather, the ride out, the clouds, the company, an incredible day!

We watched Captain Scott clean our fish - much better than us cleaning.  He even talked another captain into giving us some of the tuna they caught - they had fished further out.

Another happy hour, another wonderful dinner, this time at Conch House (at our first St. Augustine marina), and another post-dinner social hour.  As I have said, we had lots to catch up on!
